Dear members of the ACT and people of Sikkim,
Dear members of the ACT and people of Sikkim,
A very good friend of mine has been in Sikkim last year, and when she came back she seemed to have totally fallen in love with Sikkim. She told me about what Sikkim is like and showed me pictures, and i realised why Sikkim is so unique and special. I can't believe that the Indian government is planning on destroying all of the beautiful nature and culture. I feel powerless being here in Holland and not able to do anything. The least i can do is tell you that i think what you all are doing over there is very brave. I have deep respect for your hunger strike.
I wish you lots of strength,
take care.

It is unfortunate that many of us call this the 'plight of the Lepcha's of Dzongu'! The environment disaster will impact us, all of us. We must be thankful that it has been brought before us by the the 'Lepcha's of Dzongu' through ACT. The concerns are many. The impact on the environment and our people i.e the impact on the flaura and fauna, the wildlife, the climate, the glaciers, the mountains, the earth, the indegenious people of the area, the human displacement, the psycological and physical impact on the people of the area, human rights, legal and political rights, to name a few. These concerns and many more must be voiced. The athorities must also address these concerns and answer-what expert studies were undertaken to undertand the negative impact of the project? Were there any concerns voiced by the experts? What protective steps have been undertaken to address these concerns? We preach for every tree uprooted we must plant ten sapplings. Have we done that? At least.
I am glad a movement has started. I am glad we have woken from our slumber. I am glad we are looking around beyond us. I am glad there are SATYAGRAHIS in Sikkim for us. My salutations and support.
Bhaskar Raj Pradhan,
Gangtok
