This is in response to Tara's comment.
What Tara has mentioned is so true....the people in Sikkim are so wrapped up in their protected shells that they are akin to ostriches who think that by burying their heads in the sand, the problem will go away. Or else they are like the pigeon who on seeing the cat closes its eyes and think the cat will go away.
Well, wake up People...and that includes every lepcha, bhutia, nepali. This is not about community. At the end ,if you look beneath the layers, it does not matter whether you are from this belief or that strata. what matters is whether the Sikkim we all belong to stays with us or is taken away from us.
For once...people....BE BRAVE AND STAND UP FOR YOUR RIGHTS.Weren't you all taught in school to always stand for your rights? Well now is the time. FIGHT FOR THE NATURAL RESOURCES OF SIKKIM.FIGHT FOR YOUR PRESENT.FIGHT FOR YOUR FUTURE.FIGHT FOR SOMETHING CONSTRUCTIVE ...

are the people of sikkim afraid? and if yes? of whom? that they will be victimised? people....we are not living in the feudalistic era of the raj. this is a democracy where we are allowed to view our cares and concerns.and this dosent mean that we are against any government. the government has been given power to serve the people rightly and its the peoples voices which matter.for those people living in the antedelivium era...hey wake up rip van winkle.be a good citizen and contribute something for the betterment of the land you belong to. if an earthquake comes and you find yourself under the rubble...which principles will hold dear to you then. knock knock

it is interesting to note that sikkim has a very good educational system and most of todays youngsters are educated. through this column, i want to raise the issue of teaching proper values to the generation. can it be that our system is faulty and that the youngsters are not taught to stand up does everyone have to be a part of the crowd? is the average sikkimese living in their cozy homes afraid to voice their opinions because they havent been taught? its an interesting thought...this inability to make ones opinion even though one is supposed to be educated. there should be more response rather than an apathy. take out a peace march... etcetc. more people should come out. dawa and gang have shown the way.

In 1981, Irish republican volunteers in a British jail on Irish soil undertook a fast to the death to retain their status as political prisoners. The British government, led by Margaret Thatcher, demanded they be classified as criminals.
Ten men died on the doorstep of the British government in one of the most turbulent periods in the tragic history of Anglo-Irish relations.

Dear Captain Planet and the Planeteers,
BY YOUR POWERS COMBINED i wish you all the best for whatever you are trying to achieve but i personally think it’s wrong to call people not supporting this movement Ostriches and Pigeons. it’s like media who focus their camera on something taking place at one specific location and states entire country is chanting rhymes of the happening. if one was to just zoom out and take a MACRO perspective you’ll notice people are (maybe, maybe not) just not bothered, concerned or think otherwise etc. and are all going about with their usual lives.
AND WITH THE EXAMPLE OF NEPAL I DON’T THINK THE MASSES ARE SCARED OF a despot ANYMORE!
If someone could also mention what our state representatives have said in detailed length on their defence. a few you could hiss are free electricity, employment opportunities (Mr. Phuntsok has already mentioned some of them, again only a few) and types of skills the sponsored workshops are training the locals, revenue generated (which could be used for restoration and further development of the state) their advanced technology & higher quality of works (End of the Raj Era is understood, hence privatisation has stepped in) their foreign consultants, better quality of material used in making these low dams and powerhouse, channelisation of water from dam to powerhouse and also percentage of water flowing in-between etc, number of years developer will be running these projects and handing it back to the state????? etc.???
Contributors should come up with a slightly more rational and if possible a mediated view point, i just think this weeping all over the web page is becoming cliche.
