DAY 10..........240 hrs.........14,400 minutes........

DAY 10.................
240 hrs..............14,400 minutes

Its Day 10 now of the Indefinite Hunger Strike by Memebers of ACT and Satyagrahis led by Dawa Lepcha and Tenzing Lepcha.
While Dawa is in hospital, Tenzing is still at BL House but looks very sick as the picture would show.

A meeting was held at Tashiling today between ACT and the Government. Nothing concrete was the outcome in the absence of the Hon'ble Chief Minister who is in US. He is expected to be back soon but Government sources are not sure when.

More and more support for ACT and the Satyagrahis on hunger strike has been pouring in from Gangtok and other parts of Sikkim. Lepchas from Darjeeling and Kalimpong too have been coming in regularly to voice support to the cause. Besides, Lepcha supporters, people from all walks of life and other communities too have been expressing concern and supporting the noble cause of the Satyagrahis.

Dawa's 5 year old son, Solyop, still oblivious of the threat to his community and the reason Daddy's gone hungry all these days.

Four Percent (4%) of Global Warming Due to Dams, Says New Research

The recently concluded G8 summit held at Heiligendamm, Germany, had talks on global warming and reduction of greenhouse gases on its main agenda besides other issues. Back home here in Sikkim, World Environment day celebrated on 5th June had "The Melting Glaciers" as its theme for discussion.
The worlds a smaller place than it ever used to be and Sikkim facing the pressures of modern development and change cannot escape the worldwide phenomenon of climate change especially when we live in such a fragile ecosystem, yet one of the richest.

It is unfortunate that many of us call this the 'plight of the Lepcha's of Dzongu'! The environment disaster will impact us, all of us. We must be thankful that it has been brought before us by the the 'Lepcha's of Dzongu' through ACT. The concerns are many. The impact on the environment and our people i.e the impact on the flaura and fauna, the wildlife, the climate, the glaciers, the mountains, the earth, the indegenious people of the area, the human displacement, the psycological and physical impact on the people of the area, human rights, legal and political rights, to name a few. These concerns and many more must be voiced. The athorities must also address these concerns and answer-what expert studies were undertaken to undertand the negative impact of the project? Were there any concerns voiced by the experts? What protective steps have been undertaken to address these concerns? We preach for every tree uprooted we must plant ten sapplings. Have we done that? At least.I am glad a movement has started. I am glad we have woken from our slumber. I am glad we are looking around beyond us. I am glad there are SATYAGRAHIS in Sikkim for us. My salutations and support.

Dear Sir,Administrator,

www.weepingsikkim.com

Its a very appreciative and a holy effort on your part for working continously for the support for ACT and their initiative which is not just only concerning Lepchas but the people of the whole of the state of Sikkim.I have been reading your blog since the begining and have seen that it has got an over whelming response from not only within but across continents.I hope the effort of the concerned citizens would soon bring out a positive outcome.Further i would like to know if it is permissible to use your photograps and articles to share it with people, just to make a little effort to let people know still in darkness.Your early reply would be highly appreciated.

Regards,

Deepsquared.
