(The upcoming teesta project in construction at Kalijhora near Sevoke. ................

This once used to be one of the most picturesque sight of the lower teesta valley touchin the terai driving along NH 31 A. Drives in winters would hilariously be greeted with beach like shacks and hordes of picnic goers from Siliguri and nearby towns....all with with the loudest of speakers on top of their buses, jeeps, bikes...etc etc.....blaring the latest dhik chaks!!!!!).................(Barsat ki Ek Rath.........A Big Bee movie and supposedly a hit.....had a song shot right here...........of course when there was a silver beach............the best beach!!!! in the entire journey from Tso Lhamu......)

First of all i appreciate the peacefull protest taken up by ATC against the projects which are definitely going to give more negative impact than benefits. I am a project affected citizen of Teesta-5 Project and since i myself am affected therefore have hands on experiences about the hydel projects. The Teesta-5 got started from the year 1999 but till date the displaced families are not yet settled, the resettlement and rehabilitation process have been very sluggish. The employment were provided in the poorest grade without giving preferential treatment to the qualified peoples. Let us not repeat such kind of case in future in Sikkim. We are peace loving people and let the government handle it peacefully. Government should come forward for solution rather than staying back and supporting the destructors.

it is interesting to note that sikkim has a very good educational system and most of todays youngsters are educated. through this column, i want to raise the issue of teaching proper values to the generation.

can it be that our system is faulty and that the youngsters are not taught to stand up does everyone have to be a part of the crowd? is the average sikkimese living in their cozy homes afraid to voice their opinions because they havent been taught? its an interesting thought...this inability to make ones opinion even though one is supposed to be educated.

there should be more response rather than an apathy. take out a peace march... etcetc. more people should come out. dawa and gang have shown the way.
