DAY 38While the beautiful river Teesta swollen and angry washed away and damaged ongoing construction to dam it at Kalijhora......... today incidently is the 38th day of the indefinite hunger strike by Satyagrahis of Act led by Dawa Lepcha and Tenzing Lepcha who are admitted in STNM Hospital at the moment. The rest of the members of ACT continued their relay hunger strike at BL House.
The government had earlier given an ultimatum to call off the hunger strike within 24 days failing action would be taken as per law. The 24 hour ultimatum to call off the hunger strike ended in the afternoon today and peaceful protestors were expecting the police to turn up any moment to take action as threatened.
ACT has refused to call off the indefinite hunger strike and continued their fast.
There was however, no action till late evening.
Monks of the Sangha of Dzongu meanwhile have been chanting prayers and mantras to save Dzongu and ward off evil.
Young ACT members sat in protest peacefully waiting for action.They looked very vulnerable and tensed. Close to the site of the hunger strike, at Sadar Police Station, armed policemen of Sikkim Armed Police were conducting a mock drill wearing protection gear and combat fatigues along with all the top brass of the District Police Force.
ACT has also called on the Governor and submitted him a memorandum seeking his intervention fearing strong action may be taken against peaceful satyagrahis fasting to protest.
As of now, no action has been taken by the police. The indefinite hunger strike continues into its 39th day tomorrow and Dawa and Tenzing’s health is critical.
